What if I told you that you don’t need to wrap your dog’s leash several times around your wrist in order to feel safe & secure? It’s true! The safest and strongest leash holding method (as long as you don’t have hand injuries/weak grip strength) is the thumb hold👍🏼

How: Place the loop over your thumb and then close your fingers over the leash, your thumb can then lay onto of your closed wrist.

Why: The leash is essentially locked in by your thumb and protected/reinforced with your fingers. After adopting this method, I’ve never had a leash slip out of my grip. Compared to wrist wrapping, if the dog pulls hard enough and unexpectedly, the leash can slide off and possibly cause injury to your wrist and/or fingers. Another perk. . . you don’t loose any leash footage! Have you ever realized how short the leash becomes after wrapping it several times? With the thumb method, if you need to shorten the leash, you can “accordion” the leash in your grip, then you can also easily give more slack when needed! {Shown in video in the link below}. This also helps giving your dog the MOST space to be able to investigate their environment safely when on walks.
